NOTES: This may still be the only place you can legally depell in North America, 135 feet straight down the side of a cliff with the waters of Grand Falls Gorge swirling below you. Also known as Aussie rappel, you rappel and jump face-first down the cliff until you reach the bottom, where a spotter helps you land ever so softly to preserve your dignity and your butt. The owner/guide is an expert Spiderman and the set-up is well-built. For a hundred bucks you get four jumps, but many people conk out after two because the hike back out of the gorge -- up what feels like a million stairs -- is more physically taxing than the depelling. Although the experience itself was really, really scary, safety was never a question. This is a thrill you won't get anywhere else.
